Duets and Outreach
Louise has danced since the age of 8 and realised that she wanted to take this further as her career after studying dance at Bryn Hafren School in Barry. At the age of 14 she set-up Barry Youth Dance Company, and choreographed numerous pieces that toured South Wales Theatres over a number of years.
Louise was part of the very first group of full-time students at Rubicon Dance in Cardiff. After 2 years she went on to train at Trinity Laban (formally known as Laban Centre for Movement and Dance) for a further 3 years.
Louise knew that her heart was in community dance and wanted to share her passion with as many people as possible and was extremely lucky to be offered the role of Dance Development Officer with Rhondda Cynon Taff Community Arts (now known as Artis). Louise became Head of Dance and stayed with Artis for 25 years, developing an extensive community programme across the borough. Following Artis, Louise then worked as Participation Manager with Impelo based in Powys, and Development Worker for Rubicon Dance. She has also established her own Community Dance Company ‘Afon’ based in Rhondda Cynon Taff.
Louise joined Ballet Cymru in January 2017 as Project Manager for the exciting Duets Programme, which has now developed into a national programme across Wales. Duets allows young people in areas of need, to access high quality ballet and dance provision, with clear progression routes in place over the 3 year dance training programme.
