Dancer
Mika was born in Whangarei, New Zealand where she started dancing as a kid. In 2011, she continued her dance training as a scholar at the New Zealand School of Dance before moving to the UK where she trained on the CAT programme at Northern Ballet Academy. In 2017, Mika moved to Glasgow to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on the BA Modern Ballet course. After graduating in 2021, she gained an MA from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and toured nationally and internationally as a placement student with National Dance Company Wales.
In 2022, Mika moved to France to work at Disneyland Paris where she had the experience of working as a character and parade performer which solidified her love for narrative based work and telling stories. In 2023, she performed with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in their production of ‘Memoria’ at the Edinburgh International Festival.
Mika’s equal love for both ballet and contemporary and the combination of the two is what drives her. They can inform and feed each other to find new ways of moving and to create uniqueness within each respective discipline. She strives to connect with audiences and communities and create spaces where connections and conversations can be had through movement. For Mika, the life and soul of dance is the connection between the audience and the performer and this is what she is passionate about.
Mika is excited to be dancing with Ballet Cymru as it is a company genuinely committed to enabling this connection by authentically reflecting humanity through its diversity of dancers, choreographers and creative team.
