National Youth Dance Wales (NYDW) provides some of Wales’ most-talented young dancers with first-class training and performance opportunities. It draws on the energy and excitement of young peoples’ enthusiasm for dance and dancing, and channels it into a creative, contemporary force that celebrates the very best youth dance in Wales today. In 2023, NYDW ensemble will premiere a new work, Twenty Tales, by award winning choreographer Mario Bermúdez Gil. www.nydw.org.uk
Choreography by Marcus Jarrell Willis
Ballet Cymru Resident Choreographer Marcus J Willis brings to stage the reimagining of his choreographic work, Stream of Consciousness, first premiered by Ailey II in 2016.Stream of Consciousness gives physical life to our inner thoughts. Willis weaves six simple gestures into ‘the stream’, the tumultuous monologue within each person’s mind. Set to a contemporary reimagining of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons by Max Richter, this work echoes the tension and poignancy of the music’s ever-changing tides.
Further to this theme, Willis also brings his acclaimed solo creation, Beyond Reach to Ballet Cymru’s repertoire. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, this timeless solo captures a moment of reflection, representative of the ongoing journey of an individual’s life. Subtle meets jarring in the encounters with oneself in this intimate solo scored with music by Franz Schubert.
TIR and Stream of Consciousness will also be performed at Theatr Clwyd, Mold on 13 and 14 October and Pontio, Bangor on 30 November as a Double Bill. Please visit the venue websites for further details.
