Mae The Sanctuary, wedi’i greu gan goreograffydd wedi’i leoli yng Nghymru Marcus Jarrell Willis, yn waith dawns ddeuawd un act sy’n gwahodd y gynulleidfa ar daith i ymestyn i mewn a chofleidio ei lloches – Lle personol yn ystod cyfnod lle mae noddfa a thawelwch wedi’u hamddifadu i’r ddynol ryw. Mae’r greadigaeth ddawns un awr yn dangos gwahanol gyfnodau taith emosiynol sy’n adlewyrchu profiadau bywyd personol dau fod dynol. Mae’r greadigaeth yn cynnwys cyfansoddiad ysgrifenedig gwreiddiol gan egin awdur a anwyd yng Nghymru, Tomos O’Sullivan, gyda cherddoriaeth gan amrywiaeth o artistiaid rhyngwladol ac o’r DU. Mae The Sanctuary yn addas i gynulleidfaoedd o bob oed.
The Sanctuary, created by Wales based choreographer Marcus Jarrell Willis, is a one act duet dance work that invites the audience on a journey to reach within and embrace their sanctuary – An intimate place during a time where refuge and tranquility are starved for mankind. The one-hour dance creation demonstrates the various phases of an emotional journey that reflects two human beings’ personal life experiences. The creation includes an original writing composition by Welsh born, up and coming writer, Tomos O’Sullivan, with music by various UK and international artists. The Sanctuary is suitable for audiences of all ages.

Cafodd ei enwi fel Coreograffydd Gorau am greadigaeth TU Dance, Sensible Existence in City Pages 2018 Best of the Twin Cities.
Comisiynwyd estyniad i hyd noswaith Sensible Existence fel Prosiect TU Dance yng ngwanwyn 2022. Willis oedd Cymrawd Coreograffi Leverhulme 2018/9 yn Rambert Dance yn Llundain, ac yn ystod y cyfnod hwnnw, cyflawnodd greadigaeth unawd hyd noswaith POM/POM, Portrait of Man/ Pieces of Me a chrëwyd gwaith gyda dawnswyr dethol o Rambert 2. Yn 2021, penodwyd i rôl Coreograffydd Preswyl i Ballet Cymru yng Nghasnewydd, Cymru, lle creodd ei waith, Isolated Pulses, gyda’r cwmni ar gyfer y llwyfan a ffilm, creodd Echoes gyda Ballet Cymru 2 (Rhaglen Cyn-Broffesiynol) a gweithiodd gyda Dawns Haf Cymru (Ysgol Ballet Ryngwladol Cymru) yn ystod ei dymor agoriadol. Ar yr un pryd, mae Willis yn parhau’r daith o adeiladu gweithfeydd coreograffig ar gyfer ei brosiect perfformiad dawns annibynnol, MJ Willis Project-Inc.
Commissions, residencies and film creations include works for Ailey II, TU Dance, NY Choreographic Institute, with dancers of New York City Ballet, Company Danzante, Ballet Cymru, The Juilliard School, SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance, The Ailey School, University of Minnesota, Lucia Marthas Institute for the Performing Arts, Rubicon Dance, COCA, Satellite Collective, The Dance Gallery Festival Level Up Commission in 2013 and The 92nd Y Dance Introduction Series, among others. He was named Best Choreographer for TU Dance creation, Sensible Existence in City Pages 2018 Best of the Twin Cities. The evening length expansion of Sensible Existence was commissioned as a TU Dance Project in spring 2022.
Willis was the 2018/19 Leverhulme Choreography Fellow at Rambert Dance in London, during which time he completed the evening length solo creation POM/POM, Portrait of Man/ Pieces of Me and created work with selected dancers of Rambert 2. In 2021, he was appointed the role of Resident Choreographer for Ballet Cymru in Newport, Wales UK, where he created his work, Isolated Pulses, with the company for stage and film, created Echoes with Ballet Cymru 2 (Pre-Professional Programme) and worked with Wales Summer Dance (Wales International Ballet School) during his inaugural season. Synchronously, Willis is continuing the journey of building choreographic works for his independent dance performance project, MJ Willis Project-Inc.
